Checked on 28 July 2026. The ss.lv registration page currently shows a notice: "Jaunu kontu reģistrācija ir slēgta. Izmantojiet lūdzu iepriekš reģistrētus kontus." New account registration is closed, please use previously registered accounts. The same text appears on the Russian version, the mobile site, and on ss.com. No date is given. No reason is given.
So if you just tried to create an account and it didn't work, it's not your browser and it's not your email address. Registration really is closed.
What this actually blocks?
You can still browse listings normally. Search works, contact details are visible, the rest of the site behaves as usual.
What you can't do is create a new account. And without an account you can't post a listing on ss.lv. If you already have an older account it still works, which is exactly what the notice tells you to do.
So the group affected is narrow, but it's affected completely: people who have never used ss.lv and now want to sell something.
How long has it been like this?
Honest answer, we don't know.
The notice carries no date. ss.lv hasn't explained it anywhere, at least not publicly. We went looking, and there's nothing written about it in the news or on any forum. The only places on the internet where that sentence shows up at all are ss.lv's and ss.com's own pages.
So we're not going to promise you something we don't know. We don't know when registration closed and we don't know when it reopens. If you need an account today, none of that helps you anyway.
Is this connected to the court case?
Worth mentioning the context, since people will ask. SIA "SS", the company behind ss.lv, is currently in litigation with Latvia's Competition Council over a decision from 5 March 2026 that fined it 186,780 euros for abusing its dominant market position. On 10 July the Supreme Court suspended the part of that decision requiring clear criteria for deleting listings and blocking accounts. We wrote about that separately.
Does the registration closure have anything to do with it? There's no evidence that it does, and we're not going to link the two. Two things are happening at the same time. That's all anyone can say right now.
Where to post if you don't have an account?
Latvia has more classifieds portals than most people realize. We've compared them in detail, but in short, depending on what you're selling:
- Reklama.lv - old, stable, general-purpose. Smaller audience than ss.lv, but also less competition.
- MM.lv and PP.lv - both free, both cover the standard categories across Latvia.
- City24.lv - for real estate. The filters are built specifically for it.
- Andelemandele.lv - second-hand clothing, shoes, accessories, household goods.
- Visam.lv - a newer portal, but mobile only, through the app.
- Zip.lv - another free option, originally created by the Draugiem.lv team.
None of them replaces ss.lv's volume on its own. But post on two or three and the reach adds up to something reasonable, but it costs you several extra minutes.
And yes, us too

You can create an account, posting is free, and the site works in Latvian, Russian and English. There's built-in chat, so you don't have to hand your phone number to strangers.
We're not ss.lv in terms of size and we won't pretend otherwise. Our traffic is a fraction of theirs. But if you need somewhere to put a listing right now, it's one of the places you can do that.
If registration reopens
Then go and register, if that's what you need. We're not telling you to boycott ss.lv. For most people in Latvia it's still the portal with the most buyers on it.
What this does show, though, is one thing worth taking away. If your entire selling setup depends on a single portal, a notice like that leaves you with nothing. A couple of accounts elsewhere cost nothing and are useful exactly in moments like this.
